Foresters Fall to St. Thomas, Settle for Series Split

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 7-2 by visiting University of St. Thomas on Sunday, less than 24 hours after posting a 3-0 season-opening victory over the Tommies. Forester sophomore Marissa Weber scored both of the home team's goals.

The Foresters trailed 2-0 midway through the second period when Weber scored her first goal of the year. Fellow sophomore Torey Crown and freshman Logan Taylor assisted on the power play goal.

Lake Forest was on the power play again less than three minutes later when Weber lit the lamp for the second time. Freshman Michelle Greeneway picked up the assist and the game was tied at two.

St. Thomas had scored a power play goal at 12:50 in the first period and added an even-strength score exactly five minutes later. After the Foresters tied the game, the Tommies netted a power play goal of their own just 61 seconds later. Another score by the visitors at 17:22 put them ahead 4-2.

Hopes for another Lake Forest comeback were diminished when St. Thomas scored 22 seconds into the third period. The Tommies added to their lead at 4:03 and closed out the scoring on a power play goal with less than five minutes to play in the contest.

Junior goaltender Auriana Johnson made her Forester debut after the visitors' final goal and made one save over the last 4:41.

Lake Forest had a 15-13 advantage in shots on goal in the first period and a 17-13 edge in the second. St. Thomas out-shot the home team 12-10 during the final 20 minutes.

Both teams are now 1-1-0 on the season.

The Foresters' next game will be at Concordia University Wisconsin on Tuesday, November 13, at 7:00 p.m.
