This Week in the Forest: April 15-21

All six of the College's spring sports are in action again this week.

The softball team will kick off the week with a doubleheader at Ripon College on Monday. The games were supposed to be played last Wednesday but were postponed due to weather. Lake Forest split a doubleheader with Illinois College on Saturday, falling 4-2 in the opener before taking game two 3-1, and is now 11-11 overall and 4-2 in the Midwest Conference so far this season. Ripon split a pair of game at Cornell College on Saturday and is 7-7 overall and 2-6 in the league. The Foresters have defeated the Red Hawks in each of their last nine meetings, including last year's 3-2 and 13-6 decisions in Lake Forest.

Softball will be in action again on Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader against visiting Millikin University. Millikin in 20-8 so far this season after posting victories over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Chicago on Saturday. The teams have faced off during five of the last six Spring Break trips to Florida with the Big Blue taking three of those meetings.

UPDATE: Tuesday's softball doubleheader against Millikin University has been cancelled due to field conditions.

The men's tennis team is 11-9 overall and 6-2 in the conference after winning two of three matches over the weekend to clinch a spot in the four-team MWC Tournament. The Foresters will close out the regular season against Dominican University at home on Wednesday before traveling to Madison for the MWC Team and Individual Tournaments April 26-28. Lake Forest is 5-0 all-time against the Stars but they have not met since 2014.

The Forester golf teams will begin 36-hole events on Friday. The men tied for fifth place at the 15-team Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational on Saturday before having Sunday's Forester Spring Invite and Monday's Elmhurst Bluejay Spring Invitational postponed due to weather. They will compete in Millikin's Take Back the Night Challenge on Friday and Saturday at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur, Illinois, where they were ninth out of 17 teams a year ago.

The women's golf team tied for second place out of seven teams at the Judson University Invitational last Monday. Lake Forest will travel to The Beloit Club for this weekend's UW-Whitewater Spring Fling, an event the team did not attend in 2018.

The track team will also compete on Friday in the University of Dubuque Good Friday Open. Forester runners split up and participated in two different meets last Saturday and made several new entries on the program's list of the top five times in each event, including a pair of school records.

UPDATE: Select Forester track runners will compete in the 10,000m run at Augustana College on Thursday.

Softball will continue a busy week on Friday with another non-conference doubleheader at home against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Whitewater enters the week 15-7 and will also play doubleheader on Monday and Tuesday. Lake Forest swept the Warhawks when they last played in 2017, taking the opener 7-0 and game two 4-3.

The softball team's fourth doubleheader of the week will be against visiting St. Norbert College on Saturday after the team's were unable to play their scheduled twinbill on March 31. Last season the Foresters posted a pair of shutouts against the Green Knights, who enter the week 16-10 overall and 9-3 in MWC play so far this year.

Saturday's slate of competition also includes the final two regular season matches for the Forester women's tennis team, which is scheduled to host Kalamazoo College (7-5) in the morning and Edgewood College (19-5) in the afternoon. Lake Forest, which is 17-3 on the season, has not played Edgewood in three years and Kalamazoo since 1966.
