This Week in Forester Athletics: October 10-16

All six Forester teams in action this week will be on the road.

The Forester women's soccer team will get the week started at Beloit College Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Lake Forest has not played since Sunday, October 2, and the team enters this week 6-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in Midwest Conference play. Beloit is 3-6-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the league. The Foresters have taken the last 10 meetings between the two teams, including a 9-0 decision at home in 2015.

The Lake Forest volleyball team will play a pair of matches in Wisconsin this weekend, taking on Lawrence University Friday night at 7:00 and St. Norbert College (at Notre Dame Academy) at 1:00 Saturday afternoon. The Foresters are coming off a four-set win over visiting Grinnell College on Saturday and are now 5-12 overall on the season and 1-3 in MWC matches. Lawrence enters the week 7-12 overall and 1-2 in the league while St. Norbert is 8-13 overall and 3-1 in conference competition. The Foresters hosted both opponents on the same weekend last year, falling in four sets to Lawrence on Friday before defeating St. Norbert in five on Saturday. Lake Forest is 47-43 all-time against the Vikings and Green Knights combined.

After the Forester men's cross country team finished second out of 18 teams and the women fourth out of 17 at last Friday's Benedictine Eagle Invitational, both teams will compete at the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational this Saturday. The men's 8-kilometer race will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the women's 6-kilometer event is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m. More than 1,300 runners competed at the meet a year ago.

The Forester women's tennis team will conclude the fall portion of its 2016-17 schedule at the MWC Individual Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin, this weekend. The three positional doubles brackets will be played out on Saturday. The singles tournaments will begin Saturday evening and conclude on Sunday. Lake Forest is coming off 9-0 victories over Illinois College and Monmouth College on Saturday and an 8-1 triumph over Knox College on Sunday. The Foresters finished the fall 8-4 overall and 6-3 in league play to secure a spot in the four-team MWC Tournament next spring.

The Lake Forest football team celebrated Homecoming by defeating Ripon College 51-29 on Saturday. The Foresters will take their 4-2 overall and record and 2-2 mark in league play to Macalester College (5-1, 4-0 MWC) this week. Saturday's kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and the game will feature teams that have not faced each other since a 21-10 Lake Forest victory at home in 2005.

Both Forester soccer teams will head south this weekend to play at Knox College on Saturday and Monmouth College on Sunday. The men's game will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the women's at 3:30 p.m. both days. The Lake Forest men are coming off a 4-2 victory over visiting St. Norbert College last Wednesday and are now 7-5-0 overall and 5-0-0 in conference play. The Knox men (10-3-1, 4-0-1 MWC) are in second place in the league while the women (13-0-1, 5-0-0 MWC) sit atop the standings. The Monmouth men enter the week 3-7-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the conference and the Fighting Scot women are 5-6-2 overall and 2-3-0 in league play.
