The Forester cross country teams placed 26th in the women's team standings and 28th on the men's side at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday. Lake Forest senior Viktoria Baldacci was the women's team's top runner with a career-best 6K time of 24:16.2 in her final collegiate race.
Baldacci's time was good for 125th place in the 282-runner field and 12th in program history. She was followed closely by freshman Kristen Whitney, who was the next finisher in the race just six-tenths of a second behind Baldacci. Freshman Abigail Toohey placed 147th with a season-best time of 24:41 and classmate Andrea Lorch was 159th in 24:52. Freshman Kirsten Slora completed the Foresters' top five in 242nd place and her time of 27:33 was also a season-best.
Freshman John Derry led the Lake Forest men with a season-best 8K time of 27:22, good for 135th place out of 275 runners. Freshman Steve Auman was next on the team in 158th place and his time of 27:45 was aso his best of the year. Fellow freshman Rocco DiMatteo crossed the finish line 10 seconds and 10 places after Auman and Mansur Soeleman, another freshman, was the next runner less than a second back. Freshman Joseph Bortolotti was fifth on the team and 183rd in the race with a time of 28:06.
The Lake Forest men moved up seven places and the women 12 from last year's regional meet.
In addition to Baldacci, Forester seniors Elin Alexander, Thomas Beilke, and Aleksandra Petrovic will graduate in May.
