Cori Cooper, Volleyball

Volleyball player Cori Cooper earned her second Forester Athlete of the Week award this year on Thursday after recording 42 kills, including the 1,000th of her career, and leading Lake Forest to a 2-1 record over the weekend.

Cooper, a junior outside hitter, had 19 kills, 13 digs, and four blocks in a five-set loss to Midwest Conference champion St. Norbert College at home Friday night.

On Saturday the Foresters defeated visiting Lawrence University in three sets and Alverno College in four. The victory over Lawrence clinched Lake Forest's berth in the four-team MWC Tournament. Cooper finished with a match-high 18 kills and added 11 digs in the contest. She played only the first set against Alverno but that was enough time to pound out five kills and become the seventh player in team history to reach 1,000 career kills. She is just the third to accomplish the feat before her senior season.

Cooper leads the conference in kills per set and ranks seventh in the league in aces per set.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Cooper also earned the award on September 22.
