Melika Celebic, Women's Tennis

Women's tennis player Melika Celebic was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after sweeping her matches at #1 singles and doubles in the team's last match on March 14.

Celebic, a senior, defeated the top singles player from Gettysburg College 6-1 in both sets for her program record 45th career victory at the top spot in the singles lineup. A pair of wins the day before had tied her with with Alli Berry (2004-07) for first place in program history in that category.

Celebic and freshman Christi Valicenti also recorded an 8-2 triumph at #1 doubles. It was Celebic's 95th career victory overall (singles and doubles), tying Brittany Richardson's program record set in 2005.

The first opportunity for Celebic to break her tie with Richardson will be at Carthage College on Wednesday, April 3. Five singles or doubles victories in the team's four remaining matches would also make her the only player in program history with 100 career wins.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Celebic also earned the award on September 6 and twice her freshman year.
