Junior Molly Major's goal in the 86th minute helped clinch the Lake Forest College women's soccer team's 3-1 victory over Beloit College at home on Wednesday.

Major dribbled in from the left corner and slipped a shot past the Beloit goalkeeper with 4:52 on the clock for her second goal of the season.

Both teams scored once in the opening period. Shortly after the Forester seniors were honored before their last career home game, senior Mimi Vaintrub lofter a shot over the Buccaneer goalie and into the goal from 25 yards out. The score just seven minutes and 20 seconds into the game was the third of the year for Vaintrub.

Beloit eventually tied the game with 7:12 remaining in a half during which Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 10-3.

The official game-winning goal was scored by junior Charlotte Jackson three-and-a-half minutes into the second half. The ball was played into the area in front of the Beloit goal, where it bounced around before being tapped from senior Allie Widmer to Jackson, who sent it in to put the Foresters on top. It was the first career point for Widmer.

Forester freshman goalkeeper Paige Thiel made one save in the first half and two in the second to earn her third victory of the season.

Lake Forest had an 8-4 edge in shots in the game's final 45 minutes and an 18-7 advantage in the contest.

The Foresters improved to 5-8-2 overall and 3-2-2 in Midwest Conference play while Beloit fell to 4-11-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the league.

The next game on the Lake Forest schedule is another conference contest at Illinois College at 11:00 Saturday morning.
