Foresters Defeated in OT at Adrian, Finish Fourth in NCHA Standings
The Lake Forest College women's hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime at Adrian College on Saturday. Sophomore Stephanie Slinde assisted on the Foresters' first goal and then scored the second.
Adrian scored twice in the first period and out-shot the Foresters 17-6 in the game's first 20 minutes.
Slinde assisted junior Jenn Caldwell at the 9:10 mark of the second period, cutting the deficit in half. It was the sixth goal of the season for Caldwell.
The Bulldogs had a 13-10 advantage in shots on goal in the second period but all 13 tries were turned away by Forester freshman Jenna Brankin.
Slinde tied the game on an unassisted power play goal at 11:29 in the third. It was her sixth goal of the year and her third point of the weekend series.
Lake Forest out-shot the home team 12-7 in the third period.
A Forester penalty 21 seconds into overtime set up a power play opportunity for Adrian, whose first five shots on goal in the extra frame were saved by Brankin before the Bulldogs finally netted the winner at 1:42.
Lake Forest fell to 13-9-2 overall finished the regular season in fourth place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings with a league record of 12-7-1. Adrian is now 14-8-2 overall and passed the Foresters with a final conference record of 12-6-2.
The Foresters will host College of St. Scholastica, which also finished with 25 points in the standings, in a two-game NCHA quarterfinal series next weekend. Game times have yet to be announced.
