Jason Box Named Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

Lake Forest College Athletic Director Jackie Slaats announced Thursday (July 29) that Jason Box has accepted the College's offer to be the Foresters' new head men's and women's tennis coach, effective immediately. Box replaces former head coach Chris Kane, who resigned in early June. Box comes to Lake Forest from Bates College in Lewistown, Maine, where he was the assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs for two years. This past spring he was selected as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Region Men's and Women's Assistant Coach of the Year. In 2009 he helped coach the NCAA Division III championship doubles team and the runner-up in singles.

Prior to his time at Bates, Box spent the 2007-08 academic year serving as the assistant men's tennis coach in the fall and the interim head coach in the spring at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

Box graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South in 2006 with a degree in anthropology. He was a two-time First Team All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honoree and captained the Tigers as a senior.

"We are very excited to have Jason join our staff," began Slaats. "He is clearly on his way up in the collegiate tennis coaching profession and we are all looking forward to our programs experiencing a high level of success under his direction."

"I want to thank President Schutt, Jackie Slaats, and Lake Forest College for giving me my first head coaching opportunity," commented Box. "I look forward to taking the Forester tennis program to the high level expected of it while fulfilling the College's mission of developing well-rounded individuals ready to lead in the future. I am excited about being a part of the Tradition of Excellence already in place within Forester athletics."
