The Lake Forest College men's soccer team hosted and defeated Monmouth College 3-0 on Saturday to remain atop the Midwest Conference standings with a 7-1-0 league record. Junior sweeper Kyle Kraus and the rest of the Forester defense limited the Fighting Scots to just five shots on the day.
Lake Forest outshot the visitors 21-3 in the first half and 31-5 in the game.
The first two goals of the contest were score by senior Mahir Mameledzija, who leads the team with 15 goals this season and raised his program record career total to 68. He headed in his first goal of the game at the 4:12 mark after sophomore Themis Mourikes hit the crossbar on a long shot from the left side and the ball bounced to sophomore Dylan Hartman, whose shot was saved by the Monmouth goalie but left for Mameledzija's rebound goal. His second of the contest was also scored from close range after a cross from junior Cooper King with 5:12 to play in the first half.
Hartman netted the Foresters' third goal of the game just two minutes into the second half. The score was set up by a through ball up the left side of the field from senior Steven Johnson that traveled 35 yards to Hartman's feet.
The Foresters raised their overall record on the season to 10-6-0 while Monmouth fell to 4-11-1 overall and 2-6-0 in the league.
