Lake Forest College men's soccer players Charlie Brey and Mahir Mameledzija were named Midwest Conference Defensive and Offensive Performer of the Week, respectively, on Monday. The Foresters won 4-1 at Monmouth College on Saturday and 2-0 at Illinois College on Sunday to claim the 2012 MWC championship.
Brey anchored a Lake Forest defense that allowed just five shots at Monmouth and seven at Illinois College. Each opponent put just four shots on goal. Sunday's blanking of the Blueboys was the Foresters' 10th shutout of the season.
Mameledzija kept his hold on the national lead in goals and points by scoring three times on Saturday and assisting on a goal on Sunday. The hat trick was his third of the year and he extended his program record for goals in a season to 25 and points to 54.
Lake Forest raised its overall record to 13-3-1 and finished its conference schedule with a league-best mark of 9-1-0. The MWC title is the 15th in team history but first since 2001.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Mameledzija has now earned the award four times this season to go with the one he received each of his first two years.
