Mahir Mameledzija, Men's Soccer
Men's soccer player Mahir Mameledzija was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after recording eight points in a pair of victories.
Mameledzija, a sophomore forward, wasted little time before giving the Foresters the lead in their Midwest Conference opener against visiting Illinois College on Saturday. His goal just five minutes and three seconds into the contest proved to be the official game-winner in the 4-0 victory. He also scored the home team's third goal early in the second half.
On Wednesday the Forester hosted and defeated Millikin University 3-0. After a scoreless first half, Mameledzija netted his team-high ninth goal of the year just two minutes and three seconds into the second period. He also recorded an assist on the other two goals.
Lake Forest is now 9-0-1 and ranked seventh in the North Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Mameledzija leads the team with 22 points on nine goals and four assists.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Mameledzija also earned the award two weeks ago and once last year.
