Dewayne Evans is in his second season on the Forester staff and fourth as an assistant coach at the collegiate level. On the court, he works specifically with the team’s guards. He is also involved with recruiting and opponent scouting and is the co-director of Lake Forest Boys Basketball Camps.
Evans spent the last two years as an assistant coach at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. The Lakers reached the NCAA tournament both years and were the Great Lakes’ Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Champions in 2009-10. Evans’ responsibilities included guard play, opponent scouting, and the Laker Summer Basketball Camps.
Prior to joining the staff at Grand Valley, Evans spent two years as a coach and skills instructor with the Illinois Rising Stars AAU program in Deerfield, Illinois. During the summer of 2008 Evans helped lead the 17-and-under team to the Senior Nationals in Orlando, Florida. In 2006 Evans served as an assistant coach with the Canyon State Academy track & field team in Arizona, which won the 1A state championship.
Evans graduated from Oberlin College in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He was the starting point guard for three years and also an all-conference track performer.
Evans is a native of Chandler, Arizona and graduated from Chandler High School.
