The Lake Forest College handball team participated in the Illinois Handball Association Men's and Women's Doubles Tournaments in Des Plaines over the weekend. Freshman Anthony Collado and sophomore Matthew Chu claimed the Men's A Division title.
Collado and Chu won 21-14, 21-10 in the semifinals and defeated former Foresters Riley Kloss and Derrick Contreras 21-4, 21-13 in the final.
Juniors Dan Cordova and C.J. Laffey defeated their opponents 21-12, 21-11 in the opening round of the Open Division before falling 21-17, 21-18 in the quarterfinals.
On the women's side, seniors Sammie Zender and Aimee Fadden were the runners-up in the Open Division. They defeated junior Amber Craghead and sophomore Katrine Buur 21-10, 21-9 in the round robin competition.
Sophomore Christi Valicenti and sophomore Lisa Ledvora won the round robin competition in the B Division. They posted victories over two other Forester tandems to claim the title. Junior Amanda Flaxman and senior Colleen Hosman split their matches to finish second.
After taking next weekend off, Lake Forest will travel to North Carolina State University for the following weekend's United States Handball Association Collegiate National Championships February 20-23. The Foresters hope to claim their seventh straight men's and combined team titles as well as their fifth women's championship in the last six years.
