Mike Gilboe has been the Foresters' Head Athletic Trainer since
the fall of 2001 after a short stint with Condell Medical Center.
Gilboe worked with their out-patient therapy services department
and was part-time with Lake Forest College. He has become
well-known among Forester athletes for his great passion for
athletic training.
Growing up in Jacksonville, Arkansas, Gilboe attended
Jacksonville High School where he began his future career helping
as a student manager with the football and basketball teams. After
high school he earned an undergraduate degree in Physical
Education-Athletic Training/Exercise Science from Arkansas State
University. Graduate School brought him to Illinois State
University, where, as a graduate assistant, he covered football and
track & field, and was also a graduate instructor in the
physical education department. After graduation, Gilboe became the
Assistant Athletic Trainer at his alma mater, Arkansas State
University, where his primary area of responsibility was the men's
basketball team. He also helped oversee 12 additional sports, along
with supervision of undergraduate and graduate student athletic
trainers and instructing in the Department of Health, Physical
Education and Sport Sciences.
The Forester family - athletes, coaches, parents, and
fans - knows Gilboe for his outstanding people skills and his pride
in Lake Forest College Athletics. He can often be found putting in
extra hours in the athletic training room to accommodate the
student-athletes' busy schedules. He keeps no secrets about his
favorite part of the job, “Game Day”.
Gilboe is an adjunct professor in the education department at Lake
Forest College, teaching Introduction to Athletic Training,
Concepts of Health Education, CPR, and First Aid.
He is also an American Red Cross instructor, is certified by the
