Becky Shaak, Swimming & Diving
Swimmer Becky Shaak was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after earning All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Championships the previous weekend.
Shaak, a sophomore, finished seventh in the nation in the 400-IM last Thursday. Her time of 4:27.59 in the prelims broke the school and Midwest Conference record she set while claiming a conference title in the event five weeks earlier.
Shaak also competed in the 500-freestyle on Wednesday and 1650-freestyle on Saturday. She placed 29th in the prelims of the 500 with a time of 5:04.97, more than a second-and-a-half faster than she swam the same event at last year's national championships. She finished second in her heat and 13th overall in the 1650 and her time of 17:19.42 was more than 20 seconds faster than her performance at the conference meet.
Lake Forest tied for 35th in the team standings with 35 points.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Shaak also earned the award twice earlier this season and two more times as a freshman.
