Sam Ritsema, Softball

Softball player Sam Ritsema was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after batting .412 with a pair of home runs and six RBI in the first six games of the season.

Ritsema, a freshman infielder, was 1-for-3 with a stolen base in her collegiate debut against Webster University on Sunday. She then belted her first career home run against Trine University later in the day.

She batted a combined 3-for-6 on Monday against the University of Mount Union and Aurora University.

Ritsema hit another home run, this time with the bases loaded, to help the team post a 7-6 victory over Greensboro College on Wednesday. She also singled and scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In addition to her team-high batting average, Ritsema also leads the squad with a .765 slugging percentage and is tied for third with a .444 on-base percentage.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
